Was Steve Harvey’s Miss Universe mistake really a mistake?

While everyone is rushing to criticize or support comedian Steve Harvey for his gaffe heard around the universe, at least one man thinks maybe it wasn’t such a big mistake after all.

Harvey, as most people know by now, announced the wrong winner during Sunday’s Miss Universe pageant,   resulting in the crowning of Miss Colombia instead of the rightful winner, Miss Philippines.

He immediately apologized, the crown was transferred and Harvey took to social media with apologies as well. Harvey then did the rounds today, offering up an explanation of his mistake — he just read the card wrong.

But Harvey Levin, founder of celebrity gossip website TMZ, has his doubts.

Appearing Monday on Fox 5 Good Day Atlanta (the station which aired the pageant), Levin said, “This seems a little weird to me…Maybe I’m just a skeptical guy, but this is the best publicity this pageant could ever get.”

Levin went on to state that Harvey is an experienced television host with a talk show and a game show. He’s a pro, said Levin, and pageants are pretty basic stuff.

The result of this mistake, Levin said, is that Harvey and the Miss Universe pageant have become one of the biggest news stories of the day.

Nah ! a mistake. Of course it isn't like he is a expert on ISIS or nuclear proliferation. He is an entertainer. His opinion is equal to anyone who does a job, that is not a adviser to power.

I was wondering the same thing. Steve is well known in the US, but now, he's an international figure. Maybe he's looking to expand. Folks rebound from gaffes, but his name will carry on, and this incident...unique. I don't know.

No freakin' way Steve Harvey would deliberately embarrass himself for the sake of publicity. I've known the guy a long time. That's not his mojo. At all.

@RodneyHo Rodney, you should be embarrassed that the paper you work for is even running this article.  This is such an insane accusation that it is not even worth 2 words in a legitimate publication.  Why would the AJC even mention what some guy from TMZ is saying just because he wants increased views on his own website?  This is not news, this is tabloid fodder typical of a much less respectable media outlet.
