UPS, Mattress Firm and others will not advertise during any Duggar show

Nine months after criticism from the public and advertisers led TLC to cancel the series, “19 and Counting” featuring Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar along with their brood, the family is experiencing a flashback.

Atlanta-based UPS, along with more than a dozen other advertisers, have said they will not advertise on any show featuring the Duggar family now or in the future. Any advertisements that ran during the reboot of the family series which began airing March 15, were in error, said some company representatives.

Two Duggar daughters scored a new series on the network called “Jill and Jessa: Counting On,” which began airing last month. But a number of advertisers were surprised and unhappy to learn their ads were being run during the show’s time slot, according to reports from In Touch magazine.

Many of the companies, including UPS, commented to In Touch about their concerns:

THE UPS STORE: “It was not our intention to advertise on the program. This specific program is [now] on our list of exclusions as well as any other potential Duggar programming,” says a rep.

WRIGLEY: The candy giant’s ads for Skittles were run by mistake. “It is never our intent to endorse content that could offend our consumers,” a rep tells In Touch, adding that “any ads” aired during “shows featuring the Duggar family” were an “error.”

CICI’S PIZZA: “Cici’s prides itself on being a family-friendly restaurant. We recently made a large advertising buy on cable television that spanned several networks but did not target any particular program. When we learned one of our ads was placed adjacent to controversial programming, we took immediate action to stop it.”

MATTRESS FIRM: “After learning that we had two ads run during the premiere of the new TLC show Jill & Jessa: Counting On, we have instructed TLC not to air any future paid units during this show,” says Casey Zuber, director of communications for Mattress Firm.

VERIZON WIRELESS: A rep says the company made a “direct response buy, which means we did not have control over where the advertisement ran. We never intended to advertise on the program or on TLC.”

TLC is apparently filling the advertising gap by running promos for other TLC shows rather than paid advertising during the Tuesday night slot. To read comments from the other companies that are distancing themselves from the famous family, click here.

Josh Duggar should have known better than to commit adultery outside his marriage, and to have molested underage youths. I am curious as to what Bible passages that will be posted on this page will be used to justify his sins.

Nice way to punish the victims. Jill and Jessa are not Jim Bob and Michelle. They have managed to grow into mature young women despite everything.  Jill in particular got out of dodge pretty quickly. She finished her mid-wife training and she and Derek really took a leap going to South America. She's had some of the middle girls with her a few times.

Jessa has even grown up. The me me me she was all about because she did not have the fanfare Jill did seems to have slipped away. When the second news about Josh broke, she was quick to repost a message from her FIL that was scathing.

Could they have spoken out or been more critical? Yes, but they are fully aware of what dear Dad would do.  They can't help or protect their sisters if they are not allowed to be with them.

@Aunt T Did it ever occur to you that sane people find this entire family creepy?

The sisters could just go out and get a job like everyone else.  The gravy train has ended already. Get a JOB and get off of reality welfare!

So these corporate Cretans have no hesitation in standing up for the real perverts that make up the homosexual agenda, but balk at sponsoring a show comprised of Christians who live and model the truth on marriage and family? Woe to those who call good evil and evil good!

I don't want to see nothing from that family...TLC should be ashamed for even trying to bring them back. I always got an eerie feeling about that family.

Lame. The girls didn't do anything. So basically you saying, "hey victims, sorry your family sucks but we gonna punish you too!" Lame.

They're saying,"We're not funding child abuse and people who excuse child abuse or pretend it doesn't exist".  Maybe you should take a page out of their books.

I had the same reaction.  Jill and Jessa were more powerless than most abuse victims because of the family dynamic. In their own ways, they've broken away and seem to be encouraging the other girls.  Are they completely modern women? No, but they may be making progress and don't seem to plan to be baby machines. Derek in particular clearly has goals for his son that do not stop at high school home schooling. Her last year at home. Jill's training was stalled. Now, she's fully licensed.

The girls have gone on television and trivialized what he did to them. The message that they have sent is that any victim or survivor of sexual abuse is supposed to forgive and forget. The family needs to be off the air and not able to spread their messages of hate any longer. Let's not forget the fake way one of the daughters (a focus of the show) raised money to be a missionary. Come to find out they are not actually doing legitimate mission work through any church. The list goes on and on. While he may not be appearing on the show, his wife is being paid to be on there. You can bet that his gubby hands area all over that money.

The brother molested his sisters...... BIG DIFFERENCE moron!

DebbieDoRight

Correct. They didn't do anything to help correct the problem and to help their YOUNGER sisters from becoming victims too.  SILENCE is not the best way to stop predatory behavior.

Aunt T

@DebbieDoRight Please tell me you are not blaming them for their silence. Many abuse victims in better circumstances don't speak up. These young women were in far from ideal circumstances.

You also don't know WHAT they did to protect the younger girls. The series did not show everything.  Jill's had at least one of her sisters with her in Central America.

Could they have spoken out publicly? Of course, but what do you think Jim Bob would have done then? He would have shut them out - then they would not have been able to protect the younger ones at all.

@Laura Beard Broggi I am sure it's more like not wanting to give a platform to the child abusing Duggar family, which whether you like it or not, is exactly what this show is.
