4 fun ways to celebrate Earth Day in Atlanta (Updated)

Earth Day is Friday, April 22. Here are 4 fun ways to celebrate in Atlanta this year:

Aerial 4 - Galaxy

Tap your inner artist: Watch local artists, Amanda Emmo and Michelle Mitchell (members of the Georgia Chalk Artists Guild) create a giant, whimsical chalk drawing at Colony Square starting at 7 a.m. on April 22.

At 11 a.m., the community can join in to add finishing touches to the work of art which will feature Mother Earth and fantastical plants and animals. The event takes place in Colony Square’s Plaza at the corner of 15th and Peachtree Streets. It is free and open to the public.

DUE TO WEATHER, THIS EVENT IS RESCHEDULED FOR MONDAY, APRIL 25.

Plant some pollinators: Visit FloatAway Community’s Earth Day Buzz celebration on Friday, April 22 from 9 a.m. to noon. FloatAway tenants and guests are invited to help plant a pollinator garden in Nickel Bottom Garden, encouraging pollinator diversity and natural abundance in the area.

The Garden is located in Zonolite Park, an industrial site turned ecologically diverse greenspace which provides the Morningside area with greenery, walking trails, picnic tables, a thriving native meadow, bog & creek ecosystems and bird-watching. Light snacks and beverages will be provided for participants. Bring work gloves and a hand trowel. FloatAway Community, 1075-1145 Zonolite Rd., Atlanta.

Bike for a burger: Ride your bike to either YEAH! Burger location on April 22 and get a free burger (entrée item must be $8.49 or less).
