Talk show host Wendy Williams loses sponsor after anti-HBCU, NAACP comments

Last week, talk show host, Wendy Williams took a beating when she made offensive comments about  Historically Black Colleges and Universities and the NAACP.

The comments quickly drew internet ire but Roland Martin, host of NewsOne Now on TV One, took a particularly harsh stance.  Martin suggested Williams read a book and get up on history before making such comments.

Now Williams appears to be trying to turn the situation around by inviting Martin to appear on her Monday show, reports lovebscott.com

Williams has also reportedly lost a sponsorship with Chevrolet as a result of the comments and there have been calls across social media to boycott her show.

The Wendy Williams Show had a deal with Chevrolet and other partners which included on-air promotion of the 2016 Chevy Malibu. But as of Sunday, the deal — which began in April and was scheduled to run through the end of the year — was off.

Last week, in her show segment called “Hot Topics,” Williams discussed comments made by actor Jesse Williams during the BET Awards. She then offered up her thoughts on historically black colleges and the NAACP.

“On the other hand, I would be really offended if there was a school that was known as a historically white college. We have historically black colleges. What if there was the National Organization for White People, only? There’s the NAACP,” she said.

Social media quickly jumped in calling for a boycott and comparing Williams to Stacey Dash — the actress turned Fox analyst — who had similar comments surrounding the Oscars earlier this year.
It is unclear whether Martin’s appearance is confirmed for Williams’ show, but it should be lively if he shows up.

she has freedom of speech, it was base on wrong information, see the saw with Roland Martin.

Not wrong information.  She made a valid comparison that should have been the subject of discussion.  Instead she was viciously made an example of what happens when black folks pretend that they want a "discussion."  It's a discussion where white people cannot speak, and black people cannot either for fear of being attacked, and worse labelled a racist.  There have been many examples recently of folks whose ancestry is both black and white or biracial, even multi-racial that are attacked if they embrace any cultural or racial identity of their own other than the black one.  Roland Martin is a racist who polices the racial politics of today by attacking anyone at all who presents a valid but different opinion on the subject matter.

White students, get scholarships to black colleges. and it way cheap. same degree.

Why would anyone who is white want to subject themselves to that experience.  Look what black leaders at NACCP and the race baiters across America did to Rachel Dolezal who "identified" as black so much that she was working hard as an NAACP leader?  The fact is that transgender people "identify" with male or female that they are not!  White kids identify with hip-hop and rap.  Where exactly are you going with this naive and superficial analysis Bobbie Mac?  And it's way past time to up the ante in the discussion to address the multi-racial and bi-racial aspects of the debate.  Bi-racial folks who "identify" as black must hate their white heritage or pay lip service to it like Obama did then go on like he was black.  It must be nice to flip from one to the other on a whim.

Saw the show with Roland Martin. Wendy Williams apologized. All forgiven.

Yep.  The pound of flesh was exacted.  The conversation went nowhere.  It was 20 lashes without the whipping pole.  Did Wendy get back the Chevrolet deal whose executive was black?  And, that fact alone shows just how far those who identify as black and can prove it will go to prostrate themselves at the altar of reverse racism.  But then Africans would kidnap other Africans to make money off the English Trans-Atlantic slave trade, so the Uncle Tom epithet lives on.  BTW, the same thing recently happened to Bow-Wow.  It's a taboo subject among the current "black" leadership.  Reason?  Because they want to maintain their victimhood and all the special treatment that goes with it, especially the power to label anyone they disagree with as a racist. Get real Bobbie Mac.  All is not forgiven.  The victim was whipped and the message sent out that you will pay dearly for speaking your mind on racial matters.  Best to STFU or you will pay.

Amen to that, especially when it comes to racial issues.  Black folks get to do the discussing while white folk get to do the listening.

You're kidding right?  Wendy didn't get her Chevrolet endorsement back.  Guess what race the executive who cancelled it?  Yep, black.  Made a good example of Wendy.

Why are you making her significant? She has an opinion and she is allowed that but it's disappointing that she doesn't know the history

What history doesn't she know about?  How is it even relevant today?

She's clearly revealing her ignorance of black American culture. It shows in how she looks; everything but her natural black roots.

CelestialNavigator

What culture would that be or include?  Try to be specific.  Black folks policing the minds of other black folks.  BTW.  How do multiracial or biracial folks fit into this superficial history?

I don't understand why everyone is sooooo upset about her remarks. I ATTENDED an HBCU and found NO OFFENSE to what she said. In actuality there are WHITE SCHOOLS... YALE, DUKE, HARVARD etc... The only reason you see OUR people at those schools are because they have SPORT SCHOLARSHIPS.. If it wasn't for the BASKETBALL scholarships they would have probably ended up at an HBCU or a LOCAL HOMETOWN COLLEGE. Some of you that are on here talking about BOYCOTTING her show will be IN ATTENDANCE when she sits down with ROLAND MARTIN on Thursday. Also, down talking her in these comments doesn't make you any better of a person than it does her. Someone should have your FACEBOOKS deleted because of your comments. how would you like that?

Wendy is entitled to say what she wants just as Roland is entitled to say what he wants. Just as Chevrolet is entitled to jerk their sponsorship from her show. And it is always nice to see the same old morons posting their usual ignorance when anything black is the topic of conversation. That's America for you.

It's funny when poor black folk make something of themselves while benefiting from things like affirmative action, HBCU's and BET. Then turnaround and try to slam the door behind them when they make it to the top(Clarence Thomas, Stacy Dash, Wendy Williams.)

CelestialNavigator
CelestialNavigator

@mic404 No offense, but none of the people you list here received any special benefits from what you listed.  Look them up.  In fact, just the opposite.  That's why they express their opinions the way they do and it offends others who want to keep those benefits especially the one that allows them to label anyone they disagree with a racist, even when that person is black, biracial or multiracial.  Have to keep them in line so that the special treatment will continue.

Why can't we all be united? God sees no color and says we are all Brothers and sisters. We will all pay for our sins when we die and hate will not be on my list! I love people for who they are and I see nothing else. I just wish everyone else could live like this too. We have people trying to come and kill all of us they don't care the color of our skin and we can't come together and forget our differences to fight as one under God. That is the problem God has been placed to the side and now this all is happening! So sad!

What do Liberal Blacks call a Black woman when they want to compare her to the Black Uncle Tom ?

CelestialNavigator

@Infraredguy Very good question.  One might ask the same question when a biracial or multiracial person embraces their non-black culture and history.  Bow-wow comes to mind, but there are more and more examples as time goes by.

How's it feel to exact that pound of flesh?  It was a black executive who cancelled the sponsorship. Wendy who is clearly biracial was tied to the whipping pole by black folks who don't want her to embrace her whiteness.  So it went with Bow-Wow and others recently.
