West Elm, the furniture and home decor retailer known for a modern aesthetic is turning to the hospitality industry with the launch of West Elm Hotels.
One of the first West Elm hotels will open in Georgia in late 2018.
West Elm president Jim Brett said moving into the hotel industry was natural extension of the brand which also recently entered the commercial furnishings market with West Elm Workspace.
“By adapting the framework design of each hotel to reflect the mood and identity of its host city, we will continue to engage the adventurous spirit of our customers as they follow us to our next level of hospitality,” said Brett in a statement.
West Elm Hotels are currently planned for Savannah, Georgia; Detroit, Michigan; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Charlotte, North Carolina and Indianapolis, Indiana. They will begin opening in late 2018 and other markets will be added.
In Savannah, the hotel will be located on Drayton Street in the Bull Street Corridor next to Forsyth Park.
Each hotel will feature local design elements and will include traditional décor, handicraft, cuisine and culture from the region. The company will also commission and curate artwork locally for guest rooms and common areas of the hotels.
West Elm will design, furnish and market the hotels which are to be managed locally by DDK. The mission, they say, is to provide wholehearted hospitality, thoughtful design and community connections.
Naturally, guests will be able to purchase the furnishings and artwork found in any room at any hotel online at www.westelm.com.
