Who is Alisha Kramer? Jon Ossoff’s fiancee

ATLANTA, GA – APRIL 18: Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff walks with his girlfriend Alisha Kramer after speaking to his supporters as votes continue to be counted in a race that was too close to call for Georgia’s 6th Congressional District in a special election to replace Tom Price, who is now the secretary of Health and Human Services on April 18, 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia. The winner of the race would fill a congressional seat that has been held by a Republican since the 1970s. (Photo by Joe Raedle/Getty Images)

Jon Ossoff, the 6th District candidate, got engaged to his longtime girlfriend Alisha Kramer this weekend.

Ossoff, 30, popped the question on Friday night. On Saturday, his supporters and volunteers from the Georgia Federation of Democratic Women congratulated the happy couple when they made a joint appearance in Marietta.

The Georgia Democrat has received national attention in his race against Karen Handel to occupy the U.S. House of Representatives seat vacated by Tom Price.

Handel issued a statement congratulating Ossoff and Kramer on their engagement, noting that she and her husband Steve, have been married for 25 years.

Ossoff, a filmmaker turned politician, who some say seemed to emerge from nowhere to enter the political arena, has had to adjust to the bright lights of celebrity. Now Kramer, 27, is about to find herself in the glare of publicity as well.

Things started moving in that direction when CNN’s Alisyn Camerota asked Ossoff during an interview about his plans to get married. Ossoff declined to divulge any details of his personal life, but now his detractors are suggesting that the timing of his engagement is a political move.

So now that she is officially in the spotlight, you may be wondering, just who is Alisha Kramer? We have requested an interview with Kramer, but for now, here’s what we can from social media and our own reporting:

She and Ossoff attended the same schools. So much for young love not lasting. These two, who both attended Paideia School — an independent pre K – 12 school in Druid Hills — started dating as teens. Kramer arrived at Georgetown in 2008, a year before Ossoff graduated. While there, she studied Biology of Global Health, according to her Linked In page.

So of course, she is well-traveled. You can’t have global health in your degree and not actually travel the globe. Kramer studied abroad in Denmark as a Georgetown student. She would later organize research trips or lead delegations to locations including Botswana, Switzerland, Ethiopia, South Africa and Zambia as program coordinator and research assistant at the Center for Strategic and International Studies Global Health Policy Center. Her work dealt with global health issues, including HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and women’s health, according to her author bio on Impatient Optimists blog for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. She’s also been to South America, including a visit to Patagonia.

She’s a student again. The daughter of a psychologist mom and employment lawyer father, Kramer is currently a student at Emory University School of Medicine where she is studying Obstetrics and Gynecology. Her expected graduation date is 2018. Her education is the reason Ossoff can’t vote for himself in the upcoming election. The couple opted to live within walking distance of Emory so Kramer can commute to school each day. That means Ossoff doesn’t live in the sixth district, but he told the AJC that he plans to live there are soon as Kramer completes her schooling.

She’s an aficionado of Ultimate Frisbee. Not only did Kramer play Ultimate in college, she was a team captain. She even contributed an essay to the (ultimate!!) College Women’s Ultimate Resource Manual and is a fan of Ragnarok, Elite Ultimate Frisbee in Copenhagen, Denmark. It’s another passion she shares with her hubby-to-be who was known to play a little Ultimate himself back in the day.

You left out Ossoff's long association with John Lewis.  Not a good indicator for the 6th District voters.

This is politics at its worst.  Almost like Obama who had "no experience at leadership" ........ Ossoff appears on the scene for what reason?  He is a nothing .... a priveledged young man who has obviously had everything handed to him from childhood, as Paideia is located, not in Decatur, but on West Paces Ferry Road in the heart of Buckhead and while, the AJC, refers to it as "an independent" school rather than "A Private School" like Westminster and Lovett.  It still cost many thousands to attend.  Georgetown is a very liberal school and when else can a gifted child from the "private school sector" of Atlanta get a degree in Biology of Global Health !!!! .... Please ... Somehow these youngsters with little to no real experience in life have been promoted into the "leadership" role of representing the 6th District of Georgia with a population of 1,000,000+ people.  Didn't we learn anything from the 8 years of wasted resources through the Obama administration.  Like computer programing .......... "Garbage In ... Garbage Out".  Please 6th District keep out District "Conservative".  God Bless America and the State of Ga. and the 6th District.

@90andcounting Paideia is not at all located in Buckhead; it's located on Ponce De Leon av. very near the Druid Hills area of Atlanta.  A very good friend of mine is one of its founders.

As for the rest of your diatribe...just substitute trump for Ossoff and you get a much truer version of "Garbage in, Garbage out."

@TVLady Correct, Pace is on West Paces.  You have also just described how Trump was raised and lives currently. Stephen Miller, Trump's major speech writer is from liberal Santa Monica and is 31, with no political experience, nor did Trump have any political experience.  Why are you raving?

@90andcounting You do know you are attacking his fiancé for studying public health and medicine??  You do know Trump bought himself an Ivy League degree at U. of Penn (a private school) don't you? You do know that Trump's budget director is a Georgetown alum, don't you? Don't let those facts get in the way of your prejudices / hypocrisy.

Please before you comment, check your facts. Google Paideia and see that it is just off Ponce de Leon. You are thinking of Pace Academy on West Paces Ferry.

Georgia Legislature needs to pass a law next year that you must live in the district for at least a year before you can run for office in that district.  Common Sense.

@DerekGator Looks like you must have skipped 4th grade civics class.  Given this is a U.S. district & race, requirements are set forth in the U.S. Constitution which states, there is no requirement a candidate live in that district.  They do however have to live in the state.

He didn't go to High School in the 6th District, He didn't go to college in the state of Georgia, he worked as a film maker out of state and has never had a job in the 6th district.  Does he even know where the 6th District is located?  It is offensive that this kid is running in our district.

@DerekGator Ossoff was raised in the 6th district.  Handel was raised in the Maryland/DC area.  Funny, how that's never a concern for you right wingers.

@NeboSuki1 @DerekGator Why would anyone care where someone was raised?  I understand that Democrats think like children, but I didn't think they'd gone so far that they think children should represent us.

BaronDeKalb

@Jackalope @NeboSuki1 @DerekGator I think someone with a college degree ought to represent us — and Karen Handle doesn't have one. You don't have to be "privileged" to get one — just work hard.

Neither did the Isackson's children aka Grandchildren. Then are all sent down to $29,000 per year Woodward Academy in College Park.

You voted for a spoiled child with a 4th grade command of the English language, a 600 word vocabulary, and a compulsion for self-love to be president. How can you attempt to insult Democrats?

Grow up.

@mgunter Handel has no commitment to the other posts she has been elected to.  Always looking for the next best thing. Check her record.

@mgunter 12 years with one woman shows commitment a bit more than a piece of paper and a metal band. I bet you had no qualms about Trump's "commitment issues" despite his clear lack of respect for the so-called sanctity of marriage. Check your hypocrisy at the door.

@mgunter  He is 30, calm down you act like he should have gotten married in college. Some people care about building careers and becoming financially secure before building families.

@Infraredguy Agreed, but on the other hand at least there's some gender equality - if Ossoff was a woman this is the only kind of information they'd be writing ;)
